How Does a Paint Mixing Room Work?

A paint mixing room provides an enclosed, ventilated space for storing paint, preparing coatings, and handling finishing materials. Merchant 1 Manufacturing mixing rooms feature a filtered air intake at the front and a rear exhaust filter wall. The exhaust system draws air through the room toward the rear, helping remove airborne fumes and maintain ventilation during appropriate storage and mixing activities.

01. Filtered Front Intake Air enters through the intake filter at the front of the room, helping reduce airborne particles entering with the incoming air.
02. Ventilated Mixing Area Air moves through the enclosed space while paint and coating materials are stored, prepared, or handled for finishing work.
03. Rear Exhaust Filtration The exhaust fan draws air toward the rear filter wall and through the designed exhaust system to help control airborne contaminants.

Important: Mixing rooms are not spray booths. These rooms are intended for paint storage, mixing, and handling—not spray application. Do not use a mixing room for spraying operations unless it has been specifically designed, approved, and equipped for that purpose. Ventilation, electrical equipment, fire protection, hazardous-material storage, and permitting requirements must be evaluated for the intended use and applicable local codes.
